How to write a risk manager resume
Write a risk manager resume summary
- Name your risk area in the first line: credit, market, operational, enterprise, insurance, healthcare or loss control.
- Give the size of what you cover, such as loan book, fund assets, insurance premium, beds or business units.
- Add the credential that fits your path, such as ARM, CPCU, CRISC, CIA, RIMS-CRMP or CPHRM.
- Say who you report to, such as the risk committee, the CFO or the board, since that marks your level.
Write risk manager experience bullets
- Count the program: risks and controls rated, claims handled, surveys completed or key risk indicators tracked.
- Show outcomes in money or rates, such as premium held flat, losses within forecast, or serious events cut by a percentage.
- Include findings closed and exams passed, since audit and regulatory results prove your controls work.
- From manager level up, add the policies you wrote, the team you lead and the committees you present to.
Pick the skills for a risk manager resume
- Back communication, analytical skills and organizational skills with a bullet each.
- List the tools you use in real risk work, such as Excel, PowerPoint or SQL.
- Add risk methods by name, such as RCSA, key risk indicators, stress testing, root cause analysis or FMEA.
Do's and don'ts
Do this
- Match the resume to the risk type in the posting; a bank credit risk role and a hospital risk role want different proof.
- List licenses and designations in their own section where recruiters can find them.
- Give every risk assessment, claim or model a number: count, dollars or percentage.
- Show reporting to senior management or committees, since many risk postings ask for it.
Avoid this
- Don't write "managed risk" without saying which risks, for whom and at what scale.
- Don't list SQL, Python or Tableau unless a bullet shows what you built with them.
- Don't fill the page with policy names and leave out what changed after you wrote them.
- Don't skip the degree field, such as risk management, insurance, business or finance.
