How to write a recruiter resume
Write a recruiter resume summary
- Open with your years of recruiting and the roles you fill, such as nurses, engineers, branch staff or executives, since employers hire recruiters who know their market.
- Give your yearly volume in the first two lines, such as 142 roles filled or 30 open requisitions at once.
- Name your ATS and sourcing tools by product, such as iCIMS, Greenhouse, Workday, Bullhorn or LinkedIn Recruiter.
- Say whether you work in-house, at an agency or in retained search; the work and the numbers differ, and readers look for the match.
Write recruiter experience bullets
- Count hires closed and requisitions carried, by year, so the reader can judge your load.
- Show speed and quality: time-to-fill before and after, offer-acceptance rate, retention of your hires or sourcing reply rate.
- Name the hiring managers or leaders you support and what you did with them, such as intake meetings, interview guides or training on scorecards; about 29% of employers list this partnership as a duty.
- For coordinator roles, count the interviews scheduled each week, offer letters sent and how fast, and the requisitions you track.
Pick the skills for a recruiter resume
- Communication (about 50% of postings), organizational skills (about 23%) and attention to detail (about 20%) lead the list; prove them with bullets like same-day ATS updates or feedback sent within 3 days.
- List the recruiting skills employers name: recruiting (about 12%), applicant tracking systems (about 7%), talent acquisition (about 7%), LinkedIn Recruiter (about 6%) and LinkedIn (about 6%).
- Add Microsoft Office (about 16%) and Excel (about 14%), and show Excel in a reporting bullet such as weekly time-to-fill.
Do's and don'ts
Do this
- Put a hires-per-year number in your summary and in your most recent job.
- Match your examples to the posting's market: clinical roles for a healthcare recruiter, engineers for a technical recruiter.
- Show the step up from coordinator to recruiter to senior or partner, since postings ask for 2 to 5 years of recruiting experience.
- List HR certifications such as SHRM-CP or PHR where they are easy to find, next to your degree.
Avoid this
- Don't write "responsible for full-cycle recruiting" without the number of roles you closed.
- Don't list every job board you have heard of; name the channels that produced hires and say how many.
- Don't leave out your ATS; about 22% of employers ask for applicant tracking system experience by name.
- Don't include candidate names or client details you were told to keep confidential.
