How to write a product manager resume
Write a product manager resume summary
- Open with your years in product management and the product space, such as B2B SaaS, payments, health tech or a consumer app.
- Name the product you own and its size: annual recurring revenue, number of customers or the teams that build it.
- Put one shipped result in the summary, such as a launch that reached $3.1M in recurring revenue or a redesign that cut failures by 37%.
- If you came from engineering, analysis or design, say how many years and what it lets you do, such as reading SQL or writing API specs.
Write product manager experience bullets
- Lead with outcomes, not activities: revenue, activation, retention, conversion or cost changed by what you shipped.
- Show how you prioritize: how many requests or backlog items you ranked, for how many squads, and by what measure.
- Give the before and after for each launch, such as weekly active use from 21% to 29% or ingestion lag from 40 to 6 minutes.
- For lead, group and director roles, count the product managers you lead or hired and the budget or revenue you answer for.
Pick the skills for a product manager resume
- Communication (about 47% of postings) and analytical skills (about 23%) are the most common asks; prove them in bullets with a readout, a spec or a metric you tracked.
- List the tools employers name, such as SQL (about 7%), APIs (about 6%), Jira (about 6%) and Excel (about 8%), and show at least one of them in a result.
- Add product practice terms that match the role, such as A/B testing, user research, roadmapping, agile and Scrum for product owner jobs.
Do's and don'ts
Do this
- Put a number in every bullet: revenue, users, tickets, tests, teams or percentage change.
- Show the years of product work clearly in your dates; about 44% of employers ask for 7+ years with 5+ in product.
- Match the title you apply for, since employers post under product manager, product owner, technical and senior titles.
- Name the people you worked with, such as engineering, design, sales, legal or clinical leaders, and what you decided together.
Avoid this
- Don't write "responsible for the roadmap" without saying what was on it and what it changed.
- Don't claim credit for what engineering built; say what you decided, specified and measured.
- Don't list AI, LLMs or generative AI without a shipped feature and a result behind them.
- Don't fill the page with process terms like agile and Scrum and leave out the outcomes.
